Servants of Christ Seminar

What do you want to be when you grow up?

As you are thinking about the future, we encourage you to attend Concordia's Servants of Christ Seminar to learn more about what it means to be a servant of Christ in your studies, in your work, and in all of your relationships.

Event Description

Learn about the biblical teaching of vocation: As you look to the future, you may be asking yourself questions like these: What am I good at? What do I enjoy doing? What will allow me to make a fair amount of money? These are reasonable questions, but here are some other questions to consider: What does God want me to do? How will I serve God by serving others as I do my work well? The Servants of Christ Seminar will help you to wrestle with these questions as well as questions about how your college education will shape your faith and how you might be a blessing to every person you encounter.

Get information about college and careers: Whether you are considering full-time church work, education, medicine, business, computers, or any of a number of other areas of study, the Servants of Christ Seminar will give you the opportunity to learn more about the education required and about career opportunities that might be a good fit for you. You will also get tips on how to use your education, especially your high school education, to prepare for college and how to choose a college that will work well for you.

Take part in group sessions that will help you to grow in your faith: The Servants of Christ Seminar will also offer group sessions on such topics as how Jesus helps us to deal with anxiety and how Christians relate to science.

2021 Group Sessions

There are many pressures and expectations of us in this life, and it can be overwhelming at times. Life, instead of a grand adventure with God and others, can turn into a series of tests where we constantly feel we have to prove ourselves. All these tests of life can burden us with worry. So what do we do with this worry? How do we stop ourselves from approaching life as if we have to prove everything? Wouldn’t it be so much better to live in a way where no matter what came our way, we had true peace in every hard moment? That’s a lot to ask for, but our God has a lot to offer…come and learn of the ways God offers us His peace in every troubling moment, by His Word and promises!

You hear charges like these: science disproves the Bible; suffering proves there is no God; and Christians are judgmental. Find out how to engage in conversations and respond with the truth. Time for other questions will be offered as well.

Scripture teaches that life is a precious gift of God and should be protected. But what makes human life valuable and worthy of protection? In this breakaway we ask why life should be protected and how the value of life factors into debates about suicide, abortion, euthanasia, and the like.

Forgiveness is at the heart of the Christian faith. God forgives us our sins in Christ Jesus. God then calls us to forgive one another as he has forgiven us. This session explores what forgiveness is, how we show it to one another, and how forgiveness draws us closer to our family, friends, and others.
