Putting Faith Into Action
Week of Service 2020
The fifth annual Week of Service will be held April 19-25. Events will include: a shoeless service at The Haven to benefit Soles for Jesus; a visit to a Milwaukee elementary school where ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ students will encourage students to do well in school and to dream big; a Jeans-at-Work day where faculty and staff pay $5 to wear jeans in support of a pre-determined charity; a food drive to stock ¿Û¿ÛÄ۱ƒs first-ever food pantry; a trip to Feeding America by several of our athletic teams; the making of several dozen comfort blankets for the Lakeshore Regional Child Advocacy Center; a special service-themed Bible study over lunch; along with service-themed chapel messages throughout the week. Additionally our various Centers will each be doing their own servant events. And as a pre-cursor to this year’s Week of Service, ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ will host the 1st annual Child Abuse and Exploitation Conference on 31 March.
History
Week of Service began over Spring Break 2016 as a way to engage our Concordia University community in celebrating and lifting up our mission statement, emphasizing that our Christian faith moves us to serve. That first edition focused mostly on our three mission trips to Appalachia, New Orleans, and Guatemala. Both the Ann Arbor and Mequon campus continued the event in 2017 and moved it away from Spring Break to 6-10 March in order to allow for greater participation. This opportunity for service has grown as every CU Center created its own servant event, and a broader range of events were held on the two main campuses. Now, we’ve established "Living Lives of Love" (based on Ephesians 5:1-2) as the theme for Week of Service.
