¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ has the benefit of time to allow you to identify and choose your own residency project. We believe in resident autonomy: choose between focusing on a practice or an education project for residency completion. Ample opportunities also exist for residents to do multiple projects that do NOT result in a manuscript as expected for their formal residency project.
The resident’s year will begin with participation in activities to prepare the resident for identifying, implementing, and disseminating their project work, followed by project selection and completion over the remaining time of their residency.
The ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ School of Pharmacy’s residency program will be recognized nationally not only for its exceptional graduates, but also for innovation in residency education. Other institutions will seek to model our approach in simultaneously meeting the growing demand for pharmacy practice faculty members while contributing to the enhancement of ambulatory pharmacy practices in urban underserved areas.
Graduates of our program will be highly sought faculty members and/or ambulatory care pharmacists desired for their advanced academic preparation and experiences in developing urban underserved ambulatory care practices.
Our graduates will be able to combine an advanced pharmacotherapy knowledge base with formative teaching, scholarship, and service experiences to be highly effective members of the academy upon residency graduation. Schools/colleges of pharmacy and pharmacy graduates looking to become pharmacy practice faculty members with an ambulatory care focus will consider us the premier training site for post-PharmD education. Practice sites will desire our residents’ experience in practice development to advance the level of service provided at their institutions.
24-month residents will receive a $2,000 professional development stipend to offset the cost of attending two professional meetings of their choosing annually. Residents will be encouraged to attend a diversity of meetings that represent their professional and developmental interests.
NOTE: 24-month residents MUST attend the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting at least once during their residency.
Staffing in a community pharmacy for the equivalent of 10 days is an expectation of the residency. This will typically occur during the second year of the residency program.
Although your residency lasts two years, you are fulfilling goals and objectives for only a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency, as well as completing your Masters in Education degree. You may pursue a PGY2 residency post-graduation.
