Dr. Kilgas obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ School of Pharmacy in Mequon, WI. He is a current resident of the 24-month PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where he serves as an ambulatory care pharmacist and instructor for the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Kilgas is also pursuing a Master of Science in Education degree from Concordia as part of the residency program.

Dr. Kilgas currently practices at Progressive Community Health Center, an ambulatory care clinic that serves the underserved in the Milwaukee area. At the Progressive Community Health Center, he participates in health education for patients with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Why I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program?

I have had the unique experience of attending both undergraduate and pharmacy school studies at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ. When I first toured the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ campus in 2015, I was blown away by the kindness and intentionality of the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ faculty, staff, and students. This same attitude of care and emphasis on the individual student is why I chose to attend ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ School of Pharmacy. Through my Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) in my P4 year, I had the opportunity to spend 6 weeks at Progressive Community Health Centers on Lisbon Avenue. This rotation inspired me to pursue a residency after how fulfilled I felt serving patients in an ambulatory care setting. I now am able to practice at Progressive weekly to further my growth as a pharmacist. In my APPE year, I was also blessed to spend 6 weeks at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ helping as a teacher’s assistant and giving a few lectures. I thoroughly enjoyed aiding students to develop in their skills and knowledge. As I was finishing up pharmacy school and seeking residencies, I jumped at the opportunity to become a part of the institution that was so different from the others. Through this program I will be able to achieve my goals of contributing to the ambulatory care field, and I will be able to teach pharmacy students with the added benefit of obtaining a Master of Science in Education.

Karina A. Rauenhorst, PharmD, M.Ed

Dr. Rauenhorst obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ School of Pharmacy in Mequon, WI. She is a graduate of the 24-month PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where she served as an ambulatory care pharmacist and instructor for the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Rauenhorst also earned a Master of Science in Education degree with an emphasis in Instructional Leadership from Concordia as part of the residency program.

During her residency, Dr. Rauenhorst established a new mental health pharmacy service at Progressive Community Health Center, a local FQHC. This service helped increase patient access to mental health resources and frequent medication management for depression and anxiety. Her connection with the behavioral health team allowed patients to become better connected with counseling services and improve their overall symptoms. Dr. Rauenhorst also created a new patient care skills lab in the pharmacy curriculum that helped students become more comfortable working with medical interpreters in addition to using critical thinking skills to navigate various patient situations.

Practice Setting Description:

Dr. Rauenhorst currently practices as a clinical assistant professor at Idaho State University (ISU) College of Pharmacy in Anchorage, Alaska. She spends half her time at Providence Family Medicine Residency Clinic, a patient-centered medical home that serves as a safety-net clinic for patients in Anchorage. At Providence, she helps educate the medical residents and pharmacy students on rotations, serves a diverse patient population, and works to improve health outcomes throughout the community. She spends the other half of her week teaching students in the ISU pharmacy program in the endocrine modules and problem-based learning courses. She remains passionate about providing students with real-life patient scenarios in simulated lab environments and challenging students to be "comfortably uncomfortable" in their learning.

Why I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program?

Throughout my time as a student at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ I was presented with several opportunities to give back to the community while growing my professional skills as a future pharmacist. Because of this, my passion for serving others, leadership in clinical practice development, and education of patients and learners are all skills I want to continue to build on throughout my career. I chose ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ's Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency Program because I am confident the well-rounded and advanced learning opportunities would help continue my growth as a pharmacist. ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ's mission of dedication to servant leadership and service to the underserved align with my values and intention to give back to those who need it most. Additionally, my devotion to continued learning, teaching, and mentorship will be supported through the obtainment of a Master of Science in Education and advanced scholarship opportunities available on campus. Through my experiences with patient-centered care, clinical service development, and academic excellence in this residency program, I am now ready and confident in my ability to serve as a clinical faculty member at a school of pharmacy and develop impactful services in ambulatory care settings.

Kristen Korankyi, Pharm.D., M.S.Ed.

Dr. Korankyi obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from High Point University’s Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy in High Point, North Carolina in May 2021. She was a former resident of the 24-month PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where she served as an ambulatory care pharmacist and instructor for the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Korankyi completed a Master of Science in Education degree with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning from Concordia as part of the residency program in May 2023.

 Practice Setting Description:

While a resident, Dr. Korankyi practiced at two federally qualified health centers in Milwaukee and Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She developed patient-centered care skills through educating some of Wisconsin’s most vulnerable populations on ways to manage chronic health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. She also helped to advocate for increased awareness and funding for enhancing new clinical pharmacy services at her second-year practice site.

These skills Dr. Korankyi learned from the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ residency program helped her to transition into her current academic role at Auburn University’s Harrison College of Pharmacy. At the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Korankyi educates within the didactic curriculum, and she also practices ambulatory care pharmacy at the University of South Alabama Family Medicine Clinic in Mobile, AL.

Pharmacy is a lifelong career of serving others. I consider it a privilege to have learned from so many preceptors, professors, and tutors while I was a pharmacy student. They are a part of my journey and have developed me into the person I am today. It is due to their positive impact, that I decided to also give back to the profession of pharmacy as an educator. Looking back, I am so thankful I matched at ¿Û¿ÛÄ۱ƒs Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency Program to advance my pharmacy career. I gained mentors, colleagues, and a family that cared about my wellbeing as a person and as an educator. I was pushed to become the best version of myself and to take challenges that would help me become a more confident pharmacist educator. I chose to be a resident at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ because I felt confident that the experience I would have in academia, as an instructor in the school of pharmacy, and as an ambulatory care pharmacist, would allow me to give back to those who had given me the opportunity to pursue my dreams and passions. Additionally, I chose ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ because I wanted to not only teach pharmacy students but to serve as their mentor, giving them the ability to pursue their professional growth. The residency program at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ prepared me for my new role as a faculty member and ambulatory care pharmacist in Mobile, AL.

Francesca Napolitano Johnson, PharmD, M.Ed.

Dr. Johnson completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeastern University Bouvé College of Health Sciences School of Pharmacy in Boston, Massachusetts and then completed the 24-month PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where she served as an ambulatory care pharmacist, instructor for the School of Pharmacy, and completed her Master of Science in Education degree with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning.

Dr. Johnson practiced at MLK Heritage Health center during her first year of residency, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that is dedicated to improving health outcomes and reducing disparities in a diverse urban underserved community. IN her second year of residency, she was Progressive Community Health Center’s first ambulatory care pharmacist, where she established a sustainable clinical pharmacist service. She provided patient centered medication therapy management (MTM) services and health education for patients with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Kelsey Phipps, PharmD

Dr. Phipps graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL with a Bachelor of Science in Biology before obtaining her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ. Dr. Phipps completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW) where she served as an urban underserved ambulatory care pharmacist in a medical clinic and instructor in the School of Pharmacy at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ.

Practice Setting Description:

Dr. Phipps practiced at the AIDS resource center of Wisconsin (ARCW) in Milwaukee, a nationally recognized Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) that provides medical, dental, mental health, pharmacy, housing, legal, and food services to people living with HIV. She practicesd both in the medical clinic, providing ambulatory care services for patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, as well as in the retail pharmacy as part of an integrated patient health care team.

Residency Project Description:

Assessing the appropriateness of statin therapy prescribed by primary care providers based on ASCVD risk and ACC/AHA guidelines before implementation of a pharmacist driven statin initiation protocol. Aim to demonstrate a significant difference in patients on appropriate statin therapy with clinical pharmacist intervention.

Why I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program?

My personal interests in public health and career goals for providing patient centered care led me to discover the PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at ARCW. ARCW’s medical home model grants me the unique opportunity to treat each patient individually and as a whole from start to finish. Working directly with primary care providers in the medical clinic as well as spending time in the community pharmacy allows me to provide tremendous continuity of care for our mutual patients. In addition, ¿Û¿ÛÄ۱ƒs program affords me the opportunity to pursue another passion of mine via the academic portion of the residency. I am confident I will be prepared for success in pharmacy practice faculty positions as well as a variety of non-academic ambulatory care practice positions after successfully completing of this program.

Rochelle Wolfram, PharmD

Dr. Wolfram graduated from the University of Anchorage, Alaska with her bachelors in Nutrition Sciences before obtaining her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Pacific University School of Pharmacy in Hillsboro, Oregon. Dr. Wolfram completed her PGY-1 Community Residency at AltScripts Specialty Pharmacy where she served as a community, specialty pharmacist to patients with chronic conditions and an instructor in the School of Pharmacy at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ.

Practice Setting Description:

Dr. Wolfram practiced at AltScripts Specialty Pharmacy in West Milwaukee. She practiced in the pharmacy two days a week providing services for patients suffering from chronic inflammatory diseases, multiple sclerosis, HIV, hepatitis, and oncology.

Residency Project Description:

My project is the implementation of pharmacist-led service within an allergy and asthma clinic to increase efficiency and productivity of other clinic-based ambulatory care services by prioritizing patients who will benefit most from disease education, comprehensive medication review, and adherence monitoring to improve patient outcomes and reduce overall cost to the healthcare system. The primary objective of this project is to develop a practice model that integrates a specialty community pharmacist within an established allergy and asthma clinic.

Why I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY-1 Residency:

I am the first resident for the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ community-based residency program at AltScripts and it was a great fit for me because it has allowed me to develop skills in teaching, management, and patient care in specialty pharmacy as well as ambulatory care. Being the first resident I was able to pave the path for future residents and my future career. The program training will provide me with the experience needed to explore my career options in academia, specialty pharmacy, and my pursuit of becoming an ambulatory care pharmacist.

Anne-Cécile Mingle, PharmD, M.Ed.

Dr. Mingle graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Arts in French and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish before obtaining her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy. Dr. Mingle completed the 24-month PGY-1 Practice and Academic Leadership Residency at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ, where she served as an ambulatory care pharmacist and instructor in the School of Pharmacy. Nan Yang, PharmD

Dr. Yang graduated from Jilin University in China with a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Literature and Language before obtaining her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ School of Pharmacy. During this residency year, Dr. Yang  practiced as an ambulatory care pharmacist at a local specialty pharmacy where she will also serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ School of Pharmacy.

Project: “Pharmacy Students’ Performance and Perception of Physical Assessment Skills as the Result of Receiving Instruction.” The education-based project was focused on the impact of instruction on students’ perceived confidence and rubric-based ability to perform cardiovascular and renal physical assessment.

How did the residency program help you grow into the practitioner that you wanted to be?
“The residency program provided the flexibility and autonomy to engage in experiences that I was passionate about. Also, I received the support I needed from my preceptors to advance clinically and academically in ways I needed to, but was also encouraged to leverage the strengths I already had. In receiving training that was not solely focused on correcting deficiencies, I was able to advance farther than I ever thought possible.”

"The people I met during my 12 months were the most influential in my development. I grew from my experiences with so many different types of people: patients, pharmacists, residency project advisers, faculty, co-residents, nurses, doctors, pharmacy technicians, and case managers. All of these people taught me lessons that made me a more enlightened person and a more seasoned practitioner. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in such a well-rounded and diverse residency program."

 Why I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program?

The ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program aligns nicely with many of my passions and professional interests. While completing a fourth-year pharmacy rotation in Peru, I had the unique opportunity to interact with patients living with HIV. This experience sparked a new passion to use my knowledge and abilities to care for the HIV patients in our area. ARCW is an excellent avenue to explore this passion and manage patients as part of the all-encompassing, interdisciplinary team on site. The teaching certificate program offered through this residency supports my interest of educating others. Throughout pharmacy school, I actively sought out opportunities to educate others through student organizations, teaching assistant positions, and technician education programs. I am confident that completion of the teaching certificate program offered through this program will improve my evolving leadership and teaching skills, as well as prepare me to be a competitive applicant for a pharmacy faculty position moving forward.

Taylor Page, PharmD

Dr. Page completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science College of Pharmacy in North Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Page is completing her PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at Evergreen Pharmacy where she serves as a clinical pharmacist and at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where she is an adjunct instructor.

Dr. Page practices as a clinical pharmacist at Evergreen Pharmacy which is an independent specialty pharmacy dedicated to patient-centered care. Part of Evergreen’s mission is to increase provider accessibility for underserved patient populations through behavioral health injection clinics and to establish strong pharmacy-provider relationships through collaborative practice agreements to deliver excellent patient care.  Among the many specialties treated at Evergreen, areas of focus include addiction, behavioral health, rheumatology, and hepatitis C.

The ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program offers opportunities in many of my professional interest areas. While completing a fourth year rotation with Evergreen Pharmacy, I was able to experience their unique practice model and many specialty focus areas while delivering care to the underserved behavioral health population. This rotation sparked my passion for ambulatory care and health disparities. Evergreen is a perfect avenue to explore these interests as an integral part of the care team through collaborative practice agreements. The teaching certificate program is a great opportunity for both my love of teaching others and to further my career goals of being a preceptor and future part-time pharmacy faculty member. I am confident that the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Residency with Evergreen Pharmacy will vastly improve my teaching and clinical skills while preparing me to be a competitive clinical pharmacist or faculty applicant.

Rachele Arnoldussen, PharmD, M.Ed.

Dr. Arnoldussen obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy in Fargo, North Dakota. She is a current resident of the 24-month PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where she serves as an ambulatory care pharmacist and instructor for the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Arnoldussen is also pursuing a Master of Science in Education degree with an emphasis in Teaching and Learning from Concordia as part of the residency program.

Dr. Arnoldussen currently practices at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital’s Family Practice Clinic. At St. Joe’s she delivers direct patient care and health education through collaborative practice agreements for patients with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, anticoagulation, and hyperlipidemia.

I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ Pharmacy Practice and Academic Leadership Residency Program because of the opportunities it provides to enhance my clinical skills while serving underserved patients in an ambulatory care setting, enrich my teaching abilities with longitudinal teaching experience, and foster knowledge of the theoretical and practical backgrounds that drive education through obtaining a Master’s in education. Another element that added to my interest in ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ is the second year spent developing and advancing ambulatory care services in an urban underserved site. As a future pharmacy leader, it is vital for me to learn how to establish rapport and trust with providers to illustrate the benefits an ambulatory care pharmacist can provide. I am confident that the two-year residency training afforded to me here at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ will provide me with the necessary experiences to pursue my long-term goal of obtaining a dual faculty position where I can serve as an ambulatory care pharmacist while educating pharmacy students.”

As a part of the inaugural class, Dr. Paulson obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, School of Pharmacy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Paulson is currently completing her PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at Evergreen Pharmacy where she serves as a clinical pharmacist and as an adjunct instructor at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ in the School of Pharmacy.

During my second year of pharmacy school I was able to experience an IPPE rotation at Evergreen Pharmacy where I was exposed to the world of specialty pharmacy. Their focus on the underserved behavioral health population and their unique practice model is what sparked my passion for this field of pharmacy. Evergreen will allow me to explore a wide variety of interests as an integral part of the care team through collaborative practice agreements. Throughout my education I found layered learning to be extremely valuable. The teaching certificate program will allow me to continue to utilize this model as I will be able to teach and precept others while also continuing my education. Dr. Schwarz completed his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Schwarz is completing his PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency at altScripts Pharmacy where he serves as a clinical pharmacist and at ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ where he is an adjunct instructor.

Dr. Schwarz practices as a clinical pharmacist at altScripts Specialty Pharmacy which is an independent specialty pharmacy dedicated to providing optimal patient-centered care for high cost treatments. The goal at altScripts is to simplify complex medication regimens to facilitate the best results for our patients. To optimize care, altScripts covers many services such as patient education, refill reminders, free delivery, insurance coverage coordination, and financial assistance. Some of the specialties provided through altScripts are dermatology, multiple sclerosis, rheumatology, and hepatitis.

Why I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program:

I chose the ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program because a teaching certificate will help me strengthen my teaching abilities for my role as a pharmacist. Throughout my pharmacy education I coordinated and created study materials as a peer facilitator in study groups for pharmacy students. I also had a fourth year APPE rotation at UW-Madison School of Pharmacy as a pharmacotherapy lab instructor where I taught and gave feedback to pharmacy students on their consultation and clinical assessment skills. The ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ residency program also provides an opportunity to practice at the independent specialty pharmacy, altScripts, where I can implement new pharmacy services to strengthen the patient-centered care model and communicate with providers to ensure optimal care. The ¿Û¿ÛÄÛ±Æ PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program with altScripts will improve my teaching skills and help me implement new ideas in pharmacy workflow to improve pharmacy practice throughout my career.
